Last week, the Enviro Leaders, along with Ruby K, planted fourteen new native plants in the Enviro Center. The whole school, along with Matua Clive, participated in a karakia and waiata. We hope these trees grow up to become healthy and strong.

Moaning Myrtle
In their last meeting, EnviroKura looked around the school for Myrtle Rust. Myrtle Rust is a fungus that is destroying feijoa, pohutukawa, manuka, and rata. It has supposedly been blown from Australia and it’s appearance is powdery dots of bright yellow/orange fungi which can be found on the underside of leaves. If you see any of this plant fungus at school or in the local environment please inform a teacher or call 0800 80 99 66.

Free Pots Sale
EnviroKura decided to 'recycle' the many pots we have stored in our plant nursery. We decided to give away pots to the parents and children of Oakura School. We have lowered the number of pots we have, but if you need more, just ask Mr Smith.

Weld Rd Planting
At 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, EnviroKura traveled to Weld Road to plant 2500 various plants along the dunes. Here is a list of the native species that we were given by DOC to plant:
- Ficinia Spiralis - "Pingao"
- Spinifex Sericeus - "Kowhangatara"
- Muehlenbeckia Complexa - "Wire Vine, Pohuehue"
Even though it rained, everyone had a good time planting and felt that they had done a good deed. Here are some photos from the day's experience.

EnviroKura
Over the last week, EnviroKura has put together dozens of great ideas and we have narrowed these ideas down to three or four projects with the help of our 'enviro teachers': Mr. Smith and Lauree. Our current environment leaders are Connor, Bastian, and Hayley, who are enthusiastic about helping the environment. These Enviro Leaders have been researching about the most popular projects, as voted by all the children that come to our Thursday EnviroKura sessions: Insect Houses, Bee/Flower Gardens, Worm Farms and Compost Bins.
